Oppose Antisemitic University Student Senate (USS) Resolution at the City University of New York (CUNY)

Oppose Antisemitic University Student Senate (USS) Resolution at the City University of New York (CUNY)

On April 8, Holocaust Remembrance Day, CUNY SJP and CUNY LAW JSLA introduced a resolution in the CUNY USS Steering Committee to undermine the globally-recognized International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Definition of Antisemitism. The resolution will be re-introduced and voted on Sunday, April 11.

This resolution perverts the definition of antisemitism and emboldens antisemitic behavior and rhetoric. The resolution declares that “antisemitism is not an exceptional form of bigotry” and that defining antisemitism is allegedly “privileging” one group over other groups. Moreover, the definition outlined in the resolution focuses a significant amount of attention on what is not antisemitic, instead of concerning itself with eradicating discrimination against Jews.

Antisemitism is on the rise on college campuses, across the country, and around the world. On the same day that CUNY SJP and CUNY LAW JSLA’s anti-Jewish resolution was introduced to the CUNY USS Steering Committee, Brooklyn College’s Holocaust Remembrance event was “Zoom-bombed” with obscene pornography as a Holocaust survivor was telling his story.

Now, a group of students led by an individual who publicly boasted about lighting an Israel Defense Forces shirt on fire is seeking to define what constitutes discrimination against a persecuted minority. Rightfully, no other minority group would be subjected to such debasement for defining the discrimination it faces.

Sign this petition to urge CUNY USS to vote no to SJP and JSLA’s perverted definition of antisemitism.
